What horse fence costs in Colorado (2026)

National cost guides put installed horse fence anywhere from $3 to $40 per linear foot, depending on style. Colorado bids often run above that range. Below are the published numbers, along with what we could find that's specific to Colorado. No statewide survey exists, so we say where each number comes from.

Sources: HomeGuide, Angi, RemodelingExpense. The two sets differ a lot. Our reading is that the lower figures cover simpler builds on easy ground, and the higher ones include heavier posts, bracing, and labor in high-cost markets. That's our interpretation, not something either source says.

What we found that's Colorado-specific

  • One Front Range installer doesn't publish a per-foot price. They list what drives cost: material, total footage (per-foot cost drops on longer runs), terrain, post type, gates, site prep, and drive distance.
  • Rough per-foot figures in a 2017 Colorado Horse Source article (about $4.50/ft for no-climb on T-posts, $14/ft for round 3-rail wood, $15/ft for continuous panel) came from a Washington-based fencer and are now nine years old. Treat them as historical, not current.

Colorado conditions that move the bid

  • Rock and cobble. Foothills and the Palmer Divide can mean drilling or rock-augering post holes instead of pounding them.
  • Wind. Chinook gusts along the Front Range and constant plains wind both call for deeper corner and brace assemblies.
  • Hail and UV. High-altitude sun breaks down vinyl and poly tape faster, and hail can crack brittle rails.
  • Frost depth. Posts need to sit below the local frost line, and that line is deeper at mountain elevations.
  • Distance. Rural Elbert, Weld, and San Luis Valley jobs may include a travel charge.

Example: 5 acres, square

About 1,870 ft of perimeter. At national no-climb rates that's around $5,600–$9,400. At the RemodelingExpense no-climb rates it's around $33,700–$74,800. Gates and any terrain adder come on top. Get local bids to see where your property lands.
